Welcome to The Church of God in Youngstown, and we are glad you are interested in us.
Our mission is to become the Bride of Christ. Obviously making a statement like that doesn't make it happen! We have been given a pattern in the scriptures that direct us us to where our every effort must go to complete this task.
First we must look at the early church (which Jesus himself fashioned) to determine what our foundation principles must be. We teach and believe in salvation, sanctification, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. We also teach that the body of Christ has a structure, as in Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. We know that these ministries are all important and that they fit into God's perfect plan for His church.
"It's what God likes that motivates us." The book of Acts 20:24 tells us to complete the task that God has assigned to us. Looking at this statement from a church perspective tells us that we must continue to look in to the bible for everything that pleases God and to work to implement these things into our lives both personally and as a church. However, we find in 1 Timothy 4:1 that some, for whatever reason, will abandon this work but God's instruction to us is to complete the task! In verses 7-8 we are taught to "train ourselves to be Godly" or to bring ourselves into subjection to the Lord so that He may help us attain this goal.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 tells us that we must be in strict training, not wavering but going straight on the narrow path set before us. Hebrews 12:1-2 says we should run persevereance, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. So what do you say? Let's begin a disciplined training program to fit the criteria of the Bride of Christ. Who knows? Jesus could pick us for that role if we work to fit in His pattern.
In any case, we should be able to say it like the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith and there is a reward waiting for me from my Savior Jesus Christ."
Now, let's do the work, not looking from one side to another but straight ahead towards Jesus. Let's complete the task.
We wish to thank you for visiting our website and our hope is that you will find something that blesses you spiritually and also causes you to investigate more thoroughly the workings and worship of The Church of God.
May God Bless You - Bishop H. David Lam, Pastor
